This is a great recipe, I just had to share it with you all. We have made it over the past couple of years, it’s lovely because you make it now and leave it to ferment and it is ready for all the Christmas celebrations. It really is worth the wait!!!
1 lb Sloes (You pick the Sloes from the Blackthorn trees in the hedges after the first frost in October/ November)
8oz Caster sugar
1 litre Gin
1. Wash the Sloes and use a sterilised needle to prick each one a couple of times. I usually use a washed thorn from the Blackthorn tree as I have been told it is good luck to do this.
2. Put the Sloes in a large sterilised jar and add the gin and sugar, close the lid and shake well.
3. Store in a cool dark place and shake every couple of days for the first week , then shake once a week for at least two months.
4. Strain the mixture through muslin into a sterilised bottle and there you have your delicious Sloe gin. It really is worth the wait!!!
